Dobrodošli, Welcome!  to the "Members" section of the Slovenian Genealogy Society International, Inc. website.   SGSI offers you the opportunity to expand your genealogy research by providing a community-driven platform for posting queries and sharing research resources.  In addition, you can become involved in exploring and understanding your Slovenian culture through group participation. The "Research" tab offers a wide selection of genealogy tools to assist you in your research.  For example, the "Slovenian Letter Writing Guides" are particularly helpful in providing draft letters written in the Slovenian language for requesting birth, marriage, or death records from different resources in Slovenia.  

Another valuable tool are the "Indexes" which are alphabetized lists of surnames found in Slovenian printed materials; for example, the SGSI Surname Index, the Every Name Index of Selected Church/Fraternal Organization Jubliee Booklets (over 125,000 entries from 75+ resources), two Koledar indexes (a Koledar is similar to an almanac), the Narodni Adresar Index which lists names of officers and directors of Slovenian organizations in 1938 and 1939, and the Novi Svet Index that contains short biographical paragraphs of Slovenian who emigrated to the United States between 1898 and 1930. 

Resource links for professional language translation and genealogical research services are also available. 

SGSI has one active chapter--the Ohio Chapter that holds meetings four times each year.  Other states list  Chapter Presidents in the "Chapters" tab.  These members serve as SGSI resource persons for their particular states.  We encourage you to enter the "Chapters" tab and locate the chapter closest to you.    

The Linden Tree is the SGSI newsletter published quarterly;  it contains articles of genealogy research information, member stories, and updates on the Society's growth and direction.  Current issues and all  copies dating back to 1987 are available for you to peruse under the "Newsletter" tab. 

Looking for a message board to post research queries?  "Forums" is a popular medium for tapping into the knowledge shared by other members. Check out the many groups currently set up and get involved!   These groups include:  General Research, Slovene Foods, Slovene Culture, Cemetery Research, Slovene Music, Slovene Language, Family Stories and Resources.
