RECORDS PRESERVATION FUND
Treasurer’s Report for the year 2003
By JohnLeskovec jleskovec@msn.com
We have not made much headway with getting a full project advanced to microfilm records. However we are making progress microfilming specific texts via the archives. While our goal of copying and preserving pre-1900 records remains intact, it will be a long time before the main Archives develops a policy that would welcome us. In fact, Slovenia has recently enforced additional laws restricting access to records after 1900. Although this is a net loss, our President Al Peterlin is working with and talking to officials about the new policy. We will continue to donate toward filming selected books; a glass half full approach rather than a half empty one.
In 2003 the Society continued to accept funds earmarked for the preservation of records in Slovenia. The Records Preservation Fund received $295.00 this year:

The carryover balance from 2002 was $4,262.46, bringing the total to $4,557.46. The Society spent $500 in a 50% participation with the Slovenian Genealogy Society of Slovenia to microfilm a selected book. And $667 was spent for the translation of the book listing the material held in the Archives. We now have the translation, and this coming year we will determine the best way to make this information available to our members. The balance remaining is $3,390.46.
